Toll Two; Another civilian killed in clashes near gunfight site in south Kashmir

A civilian who was injured after government forces opened fire on protesters in Brenty Batapora village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday has succumbed at SKIMS Soura.
Reports said that the civilian was hit by a bullet near the site of a gunfight between forces and militants earlier today.

He was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.
The deceased, identified as Tariq Ahmad, son of Ghulam Rasool Chopan, a resident of Breinty, succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS, said an official.
Ahmad was hit by a bullet in his face, he said.

This is the second civilian death in the village so far. Earlier, a woman was killed after being hit by a bullet near the gunfight site.
While locals said that she was hit after forces opened fire on protesters marching towards the encounter site to help the trapped militants escape, police said she was killed in cross-fire.
